Athlete Eligibility
Any person eight (8) years of age and above who is identified by an agency or professional as having one of the following conditions: mental retardation, cognitive delays as measured by formal assessment, or significant learning or vocational problems due to cognitive delay that require or have required specially designed instruction is eligible to compete in Special Olympics.
Children at the age of six (6) are eligible to begin to train in Special Olympics.
Individuals who do not meet that eligibility can participate in our Unified Sports® program and become a Unified Partner®.
