Leg Leader Information

The foundation of fundraising for the Torch Run program has been the sale of the official Torch Run T-shirt. The design of the shirt has changed every year, which makes each uniquely designed shirt more attractive to sell to individuals who buy shirts each year. All money raised from the selling of T-shirts goes to support the Special Olympic athletes in Hawaii. Any person who donates $20, will receive an official Torch Run T-shirt OR tank top and the opportunity to participate in the running of the “Final Leg” into the Opening Ceremonies of Hawaii’s State Summer Games. Long Sleeve T-shirts are also available for $25.

The Sale

While the T-shirt is popular, they do not sell themselves. The best method to sell them is to personally show them to groups and individuals. It is important to stress that we are seeking contributions, not sales. This can be done at daily meetings, roll call, meetings and other daily contacts that you make. Don’t forget that you can also sell them to your friends, family and anyone else outside of your agency. Show the shirt and explain what the Law Enforcement Torch Run is, and tell them how the funds raised go to benefit Special Olympics Hawaii. A lot of people will be wearing your T-shirts and this will help to spread the word on to others. Those people who have been successful at T-shirt sales continually sell shirts at every chance until everyone in their agency and community has been addressed. If someone says “no”, don’t worry about it; simply go on to the next person and ask again. Remember you are not asking for yourself, but to provide for an opportunity for an individual with mental retardation to discover his or her potential. The sale of each and every shirt makes a difference for our athletes and it also helps to inform others about the Torch Run program.
