Softball
Softball is a Spring sport (February - May) for Special Olympics Hawaii. Athletes compete in Softball events at Regional competitions (Oahu-wide, or Neighbor Island) to qualify for the State Summer Games held in May.
Softball is an exciting team sport in Special Olympics. There are 3 levels/events of play designed to accommodate athletes of all ability levels in SOHI softball, they are Unified® Softball, Coach Pitch Softball, and Tee-Ball.
Special Olympics also offers individual skills competition to allow athletes to train and compete in basic Softball skills. The development of these key skills is necessary prior to advancing to team competition. These skills include base running, fielding and throwing. A player's final score is determined by adding together the scores achieved in each of the events.
As in all Special Olympics sports, athletes and teams are grouped in competition divisions according to ability level, age and gender.
