Track & Field (Athletics)

Track & Field is a Spring sport (February - May) for Special Olympics Hawaii. Athletes compete in Track & Field at competition in their Area to qualify for the State Summer Games held in May.

Special Olympics Hawaii offers Track & Field events for athletes of all abilities and ages. Official Track events range in distance from 50 to 1500 meters in Hawaii. Special Olympics Hawaii athletes have also competed in the Half-Marathon at the past two World Games. In Hawaii events include running and walking events, and relays. Field events include running and standing long jump, shot put, and softball throw. Special Olympics also offers events for lower ability athletes in distances shorter than 50 meters.

Athletes using wheelchairs have opportunities to compete in events from 15 to 100 meters and in the Softball Throw and Shot Put.

As in all Special Olympics sports, athletes are grouped in competition divisions according to ability level, age and gender.
